New Attorneys at Our Oklahoma City Law Firm

Ashley Smart grew up in North Carolina before moving to Texas as a teenager. After high school, she got her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma before attending the Oklahoma City University School of Law.

“I had heard nothing but good things about the firm from numerous people, so I decided it sounded like a place I wanted to be,” Smart said. “I met with Dan Markoff and a few of the other attorneys and realized that this was just the type of work environment I was looking for. Everyone has an open door policy and is very easy to work with.”

Smart said that she hopes to gain experience in new areas of law, particularly with Atkins and Markoff’s new bankruptcy department.

Melissa Hedrick was born in Arlington, Texas and lived there until the age of nine, when her family moved to Oklahoma City. After graduating from Putnam City North High School, she attended the University of Oklahoma before making her way to the Oklahoma City University School of Law, where she graduated first in her class and summa cum laude.

“My main goal in going to law school was to help people,” Hedrick said. “I wanted a career in which I could not only serve the public, but a career that would also challenge me. I hope that at Atkins and Markoff, I can accomplish those goals while working with some of the best and most caring attorneys in Oklahoma.”

Dorothy Heim grew up in Denver, Colorado and graduated from West Texas A&M University. After working as a teacher and coach for a few years, she attended law school at Oklahoma City University. Prior to working for Atkins and Markoff, she lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, working as a Supervising Attorney with Alaska Legal Services, Corp.

“It is my goal to provide the best legal representation to my clients while here at Atkins and Markoff,” Heim said. “I enjoy continuously learning and expanding my knowledge base. I was very lucky to end up here and am very much enjoying it here.”
