Despite the mounting lawsuits and new medical studies, which have definitively linked the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin to an increased risk of blood clots over older, "second-generation" birth control pills, Bayer continues to maintain that Yaz and Yasmin are no more dangerous than any other birth control pill on the market. In the meantime, Deutsche Welle confirms that both Yaz and Yasmin are under scrutiny around the globe, pointing to the deaths of a 21-year-old girl from Switzerland and seven others from Germany since 2001, as well as the serious health consequences suffered by others. Bayer's response: its studies have indicated no increased risks from taking Yaz and Yasmin, and that "a multiple of a rare event is still a rare event." (http://www.bnet.com) Deutsche Welle, however, reports that "'arznei telegram,' an independent publication for doctors and pharmacists, said the [Bayer] studies were not valid due to 'massive method-related deficiencies.'"
