If you have been shopping recently in the boys and girls section at Target, you may have purchased one of the belts they have recalled due to a violation of the lead paint standard. The Target Corporation of Minneapolis, Minnesota cooperated with the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission in determining that the belts did in fact contain excessive levels of lead. Although no injuries or incidents have been reported, there was additional testing done to confirm the high amounts of lead. Lead poisoning can affect childrens' development over time, and any parent that suspects their child of excessive lead paint exposure should contact the Oklahoma City attorneys of Atkins and Markoff. Â Target Belt Recall and Lead Paint Poisoning RiskDue to this excessive amount of lead found, which can cause health problems with intense or long-term exposure, Target is offering a full refund for the hundreds of thousands of belts that were sold. Daily exposures to lead can build up in the body over time, which causes lead poisoning. These cautions are even more for children, who can be affected by it more through internal organ and mental health conditions. There are two styles of belts that are being recalled, which were sold from December 2008 to December of 2009, ranging from $7 to $9. There are the Cherokee boys belts, which are black and brown reversible belts with heavy stitching, and the Circo girls belts, which are pink and white with heart buckles. The boys belts were sold in sizes M to XL, in a two-pack with the numbers 202/08/0018, 202/08/0019 or 202/08/0020 embossed on the belt. The girls belts were sold in sizes XS to L, also sold in a 2-pack with the numbers 202/05/0071, 202/05/0072, 202/05/0073 or 202/05/0074 listed on the product label attached to the inside of the belt.
