Chic Baby Slings, a cool new style of sling, has been found to be a risk for your childâs safety. According to newsok.com, âThe Product Safety Commission said it has investigated at least 13 deaths associated with the sling-style infant carriers in the past 20 years, including three deaths last year. Twelve of the 13 deaths involve babies younger than 4 months.â
Â
Parents use these soft fabric slings when they are on the go. The sling is made to wrap around the chest so the infant is close to the heart.
âThese slings have become increasingly popular for parents who want to âwearâ their babes, known as âbaby wearing,ââ according to huffingtonpost.com.
Two scenarios are possible for the infant deaths:
The sling is made of fabric that can press against a babyâs nose and mouth, obstructing the breathing process and suffocating the baby within minutes.
According to huffintonpost.com, the other scenario, âinvolves slings where the baby is cradled in a curved position or âC-like â position, nestling the baby below momâs chest or hear her belly. That curved position can cause a baby who doesnât have strong neck control to flog its head forward, chin-to-chest, restricting the infantâs ability to breathe.â
